Lessons On Faith
By A.T. Jones & E.J. Waggoner
What does the Scripture mean when it says we must “cultivate faith”? What exactly is faith, and why is it important that we understand what it is?
“the knowledge of what the Scripture means when urging upon us the necessity of cultivating faith is more essential than any other knowledge that can be acquired.” pg. 9
Notice that it is the knowledge of what the Scripture means as to the “necessity of cultivating faith,” — not particularly having faith, but cultivating the measure of faith, “the gift of God”, that He “hath dealt to every man.”
Remember the centurion in Matthew 8:5-12, when he came to ask Jesus to
heal his servant? The centurion told Jesus, “…Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under
my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed...”
Jesus said to those that followed him, “Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not
in Israel.”
That is faith — to trust the Word of God only; to depend upon the Word of God only; expecting the Word of God to do what it says, and then depending upon that Word to do what it says because it is the Word of God. That is faith  — the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
